Septic Inspections

Septic Tank, Aerobic Systems and Lagoon Inspections

If you are buying a home with a septic tank, you should consider having it inspected.  Our standard home inspection can include this type of inspection. We will locate the tank and lateral lines, (drain field).

Septic system inspections include but not limited to running water in the house, checking clean out if available, and walking the drain field (lateral lines), to observe any problems that my materialize during the inspection

Aerobic system inspections includes removal of all lids for visual inspection of tanks, and related plumbing, checking operations of and locating sprinkler heads, checking that all safety controls are working properly, and aerator is functioning as intended.

Lagoon systems are checked for proper construction and operation, the inspectors will also check to ensure proper fencing, and aquatic plants/shrubs around lagoon are properly maintained.

It is often recommended that a septic tank be pumped and visually inspected every 3 to 5 years depending on usage. It is not often common knowledge when buying a home of when the tank was last pumped, and the no. of people living in the home prior to the purchase. This means that the tank could be full, and potential problems could arise within the system, such as slow drainage, potential backup of sewage into the home, and damage to the lateral lines which can be very costly to repair, and or replace.
